This is an iMovie effect made to simulate the visual effect of a toy camcorder sold in the late '80s. This toy camcorder recorded video on regular audio tapes. To limit the amount of data saved to this thin tape, the video was recorded in black and white at a rate of 15 frames per second. Additionally, the resolution was 90 lines for 120 rows, surrounded by a black frame. Some cinema experimentalists used this camcorder to make their movies, now you can turn your high-tech camcorder into this...

"the Official, October 28th, 1991E.V. Pixilatin' Deadly Drolls": From Sunday, October 27 - Tuesday October 29, 1991E.V., I organized what's generally credited as the 1st multi-day PXL-2000 Festival. Drift Distribution probably organized a 1 day PXL fest prior to this & Gerry Fialka started the long-running PXL THIS festival more or less immediately after my multi-day one. Short but so incredibly sweet, Pxl-Bot are incredibly happy to bring you the debut release from The Hamlet. Melodically driven with an extensive use of harmonics to tame the listener, The Hamlet creates structurally simple yet very powerful songs, opting for a focus on melody to draw the listener in. As if telling a story, the tracks on this release run together to form an inner monologue of a narrative, inflaming the imagination and creating landscapes through the expert use of differing...

One of the two owners of this here establishment, Alex Kelly, or Artisan as his internet persona requires, brings another disgustingly good release to the Pxl-Bot roster in the form of âK.THX.BYE!â. Dirty to a rotten core, this Ep boasts grime-fuelled industrially rife chiptunes, full of twists, turns, layers and dank, dreary atmosphere. From the opening 30 second noise pollution, the grime rarely lets up, only removing its suffocating coverage briefly during âWith All My Heartâ before...

Kick starting off this weeks trio of releases from our very own Andrew Kilpatrick is Square Waves Octave [Minor]. This is Andrew's first full length album and it does not disappoint. The use of CMOS Pixel Sensors (CPS) for high resolution and low material vertex detectors has been validated with the 2014 and 2015 physics runs of the STAR-PXL detector at RHIC/BNL. This opens the door to the use of CPS for inner tracking devices, with 10-100 times larger sensitive area, which require therefore a sensor design privileging power saving, response uniformity and robustness. The 350 nm CMOS technology used for the STAR-PXL sensors was considered as too poorly suited to upcoming...

Modified to increase height and add crossbars to the arms for added rigidity. It may have been fine for a 1s or maybe a 2s but at 3s with the 1303s of the TP3 there wasn't enough rigidity to get in the air without filtering going mad. When Charge Coupled Devices are used for scientific observations, their dark signal is a hindrance. In their pristine state, most CCD pixels are `cool'; they exhibit low, quasi uniform dark current, which can be estimated and corrected for. In space, after having been hit by an energetic particle, pixels can turn `hot'. They start delivering excessive, less predictable, dark current. The hot pixels need therefore to be flagged so that subsequent analysis may ignore them. The image data of the...

Retroboy provides vintage imaging technology not seen since the digital cameras and monochrome screens of the previous century. A series of real time filters implement various image processing algorithms, to emulate the graphic experience of classic hardware. 4-tone Bayer dithering as found on the Nintendo® Game Boy® Camera Amstrad CPC filter with 27 color palette PXL-2000 PixelVision filter emulating one of the first digital video cameras Commodore 64 filter with...

Since Saturn arrival in June 2004, Iapetus has been studied intensively by the Cassini ISS camera [1] at various ranges. The first of two relatively close flybys in the primary mission occurred on Dec 31, 2004 at an altitude of approx.123,400 km over the northern leading hemisphere, resulting in images with a minimum pixel scale of 740 m. Detailed results of this flyby are given in [2], while this abstract covers the observations obtained earlier. Among the most important discoveries are: (a)...

We present the results of the photometric and spectrophotometric properties of the 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko nucleus derived with the OSIRIS instrument during the closest fly-by over the comet, which took place on 14 th February 2015 at a distance of {\~} 6 km from the surface. Several images covering the 0{\deg}-33{\deg} phase angle range were acquired, and the spatial resolution achieved was 11 cm/pxl. The flown-by region is located on the big lobe of the comet, near the borders of the Ash,...

The apparatus of the ALICE experiment at CERN will be upgraded in 2017/18 during the second long shutdown of the LHC (LS2). A major motivation for this upgrade is to extend the physics reach for charmed and beauty particles down to low transverse momenta. This requires a substantial improvement of the spatial resolution and the data rate capability of the ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS). To achieve this goal, the new ITS will be equipped with 50 um thin CMOS Pixel Sensors (CPS) covering...

In this episode, the one & only Chad Kapper lands in the Quad Talk Podcast studio and tells his fascinating story. Chad is an amazing storyteller and he takes us back in time to the days long before Rotor Riot and Flitetest, back when he built his very first makeshift video rig using a "Fisher Price PXL-2000" video camera, a camera that recorded black & white video to an audio cassette. The rest, as you know, is history.
